CookieGuard was born from a real, painful experience — not a whiteboard brainstorming session.
Our Story
In late 2025, we were running a small SaaS product. Business was going well — until we received an email that changed everything.
A privacy advocacy group had scanned our website, documented every cookie and tracker that loaded without proper consent, and sent us a formal GDPR complaint. They demanded tens of thousands of euros in damages — and threatened to escalate to the data protection authority if we didn't settle.
We had a cookie banner. We thought we were compliant. But our banner was decorative — it didn't actually block anything. Google Analytics, Facebook Pixel, and half a dozen other trackers were firing on page load, before any user clicked "Accept." We were in clear violation of GDPR and the ePrivacy Directive, and we didn't even know it.
We ended up paying. Not because we wanted to — but because they were right. We were violating the law, and fighting it would have cost even more.
That experience lit a fire. We dug deep into cookie compliance — the regulations, the technical requirements, the enforcement landscape. And we realized: most websites have the exact same problem we had. They think a banner is enough. It's not.
